Daniele Papuli (Maglie 1971 -)
About
Daniele Papuli (1971) was born in Maglie (Puglia). After obtaining a degree in Sculpture from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, he settled and started working in Milan.
His constant research and experimenting with new materials, with structural and tactile characteristics similar to paper, resulted in a series of interactions with sculpture, design, installations, set designs for prestigious fashion houses in Milan and Rome. ‘He is more of an explorer than a designer, transferring and amplifying thoughts and ideas that emerge as he continues his journey through the medium of paper’.
"The resulting shapes in relief sometimes open as small or big books, and reveal from the inside the sign and design of the manifold reflections of light and shadow. Sometimes the sculpture shows a sort of inner energy, the bending of the different sheets suggests the trend and development in the round. I am extremely interested in these manifold variations ... According to the way in which it is moved, touched, cut, paper offers me numberless sensorial, visual and tactile suggestions engendered by its new structure. My work proceeds by returning these experiences, and searching about sculpture, its physical character, its connection to space."
