Waichi TSUTAKA, a pioneer of abstract painting in Japan.
He was born in 1911 and died in 1995 after the unprecedented The Great Hanshin Earthquake.
The era of new abstract expression movements such as the avant-garde art group, Gutai Art Association which now have an internationally renowned, the European Art Informel, and the American action painting attracted attention in the 1950s, Tsutaka created his simple abstract expressions with his paintings and was also an avant-garde poet.
The line drawing full of lyricism was highly evaluated, and he was in the Sao Paulo Biennale in 1952 and participated in the Guggenheim Prize Art Exhibition in 1960.
In Japan, the Exhibition, "The Four Painters of Abstract--Tsutaka Waichi, Motonaga Sadamasa, Shiraga Kazuo," was held at Hyogo Modern Art Museum in 1950.
